The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) was signed into law in June 2018 and went into effect on January 1, 2020 with full enforcement in July, 2020. CCPA also includes a “12-month look back” requirement, which covers information collected about a consumer since January 1, 2019.
CCPA presents a broad range of rights for residents of California, including:
- To have their personal information (PI) handled with privacy
- To be notified of an organization’s privacy policies
- To access their PI, know where it is being disclosed, and to have it deleted
